If I work a buffet banquet, I understand that the tip goes on a check, but if I am waiting on tables, taking the order, running the food & cleaning the table, shouldn’t the entire tip come to me & not in a check?
Tips are taxable income. If they didn’t put it on your check you would have to file forms with the IRS to report your tips each month (or quarter – I can’t remember). Your employer is making this process easier for you. (Trust me, they don’t want to, because they have to pay taxes on it too).
Sorry – but tips are taxable.
