Is it politically smart for Dems to claim Repubs are intentionally trying to kill the economy?
This just sounds extremely foolish considering Democrats have controlled congress with a large majority for 4 years now. They also passed a stimulus bill that Obama’s own economic adviser claimed would cap unemployment at below 8%. She claimed WITHOUT the stimulus, unemployment could rise as high to 8.8%.

So do you think this is politically smart?? Because it seems like blaming the people you beat in the last two elections smells of desperation……

Senate Democrats are doubling down on the argument that Republicans refuse to reauthorize extended unemployment benefits because they want a better November through a worse economy.

"There’s only one kind of job Republicans care about saving or creating: their own," said Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in a statement. "To advance their political prospects, Republicans are pushing a job-killing agenda that America can’t afford: protecting tax breaks for CEOs who ship jobs overseas, while blocking tax cuts for small businesses and middle-class families. "

Report issued by Obama’s economic adviser, Christina Romer, prior to passage of the "stimulus" bill….

First, the likely scale of employment loss is extremely large. The U.S. economy has already lost
nearly 2.6 million jobs since the business cycle peak in December 2007. In the absence of stimulus,
the economy could lose another 3 to 4 million more. Thus, we are working to counter a potential
total job loss of at least 5 million. As Figure 1 shows, even with the large prototypical package, the
unemployment rate in 2010Q4 is predicted to be approximately 7.0%, which is well below the
approximately 8.8% that would result in the absence of a plan.1
**could rise as high as 8.8%.
bug…………"But, most people know, the messed up economy is the fault of BOTH parties; not just the Dems or the Repubs."

    We can agree on that.

Yes, it sure rings hollow, doesn’t it.

They WON because they said the Republicans fouled things up.

That means they were supposed to FIX IT.

Not spend four years reminding us about the problems they haven’t fixed yet.

They haven’t quite figured out yet that winning the election means THEY own the problems now.

Democrats just don’t grasp the concept of taking responsibility.

So, the government under-estimated the level of unemployment when crafting their stimulus plan. Seems to me that since it was so badly under-estimated, that means the stimulus was also too small to address the ACTUAL problem, and that we need another one.

Actually, the stimulus wasn’t the problem with the economy. It’s the fact that companies are sitting on $1.8 TRILLION in capital, instead of using that money to hire more workers.
